Replacing Todoist with a Self-Hosted CalDAV Setup


Update (April 2026): Since writing this post, I built Caffeinated Calendar, which connects directly to Radicale and any CalDAV server alongside Google, iCloud, Outlook, and Zoho. It has full CalDAV task support and replaced both OneCalendar and Tasks.org for me. The Radicale setup below still applies. Jump to the update.


Update (May 2026): Since my last update, I’ve completely uninstalled Tasks.org from my phone, and replaced it with Caffeinated Calendar. Last week I released v1.3.0 of Calendar (release notes) that was focused on Tasks and To-Dos. I’m still using Radicale as the backend, so the rest of this setup (everything except the client section) still applies. Jump to the update.


I’ve been gradually replacing various commercial and/or closed source cloud services with self-hosted alternatives. I’ll start posting about more of them in the very near future, but the one I decided to replace this weekend was Todoist.
